Directive on Energy End-Use Efficiency and Energy Services (Energy Services Directive)

The purpose of the ESD directive is to reduce energy consumption, restructure the energy market and thereby improve the market penetration of energy-efficient products. The prime objective is to achieve energy savings of 9% in each EU member country by the year 2015 compared with the current situation. This current situation must be determined for each country.
Important points
- Energy efficiency objectives for member states: +1% increase p.a. (target) over 9 years
- Member states must prepare national action plans and review them every three years (NEEAPs)
- June 30, 2007: Deadline for member states � action plans must be submitted
