ESD; 2006/32/EC

The purpose of the ESD directive is to reduce energy consumption, restructure the energy market and thereby improve the market penetration of energy-efficient  products. The prime objective is to achieve energy savings of 9% in each EU member country by the year 2015 compared with the current situation. This current situation must be determined for each country.

Important points

• Energy efficiency objectives for member states: +1% increase p.a. (target) over 9 years
• Member states must prepare national action plans and review them every three years (NEEAPs)
• June 30, 2007: Deadline for member states � action plans must be submitted
